Churches tell Easter Services

Local churches have announced their schedules of Holy Week and Easter Services.

Liberty Bible Church, 824 N. Calumet Ave., Old Ind. 49, North of U.S. 6.

Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22, 7 p.m., “The Risen Christ” story of Christ’s life, crucifixion and resurrection, as told by John, the disciple, Peter and Mary Magdalene. Childcare provided.

Crocker Bible Baptist Church, 275 W. CR 1050N (Lahayne Rd.)

Sunday, March 23, 11 a.m., Original Easter Cantata, “Behold Such Love” part of the Easter Worship Service.

First Christian Church, 1110 W. Porter Ave.

Sunday, March 23, 7 a.m., Musical and Biblical celebration of Christ’s resurrection; Barry Thornton, Sr. minister to preach “Evidence of the Resurrection”, followed by breakfast (approximately 8:30-9:30 a.m.); 10:30 a.m., and message by Thornton, “He Holds All Things Together.” Musical interludes highlight both services.

St. Francis Episcopal Church, 2101 E. Porter Ave., One mile east of By-pass.

Thursday, March 20, Maundy Thursday, 6 p.m., Mass and Stripping of the Altar, followed by vigil.

Friday, March 21, Noon, Mass of Presanctified Gifts; 6:30 p.m., Stations of the Cross.

Saturday, March 22, 7:30 p.m., Holy Saturday Great Vigil of Easter.

Sunday, March 23, 8:45 a.m. Solemn Mass of Easter.

Thursday, March 20, Holy/Maundy Thursday: Eucharist of the Lord’s Supper, noon, in the Chapel, or 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Friday, March 21, Good Friday: Noon, Liturgy of Good Friday (The second portion of the Paschal Three Days). Celebrated in the Chapel; 3 p.m., The Way of the Cross, in the sanctuary. A time of meditation on Our Lord’s Passion; 7 p.m., The evening celebration of the Liturgy of Good Friday.

Saturday, March 22, Holy Saturday, 8 p.m., The Easter Vigil, the most intense and joyous celebration of the Christian Year. Includes the lighting of the new fire and paschal candle; Old Testament stories of heritage; Baptisms, Confirmation and the renewal of the Baptismal Covenant; the first Eucharist of Easter.

Sunday, March 23 Easter Sunday Morning, The continuation of the celebration of Our Lord’s resurrection at 8 and 10:30 a.m.; 4 p.m. Sung Evening Prayer to conclude the Paschal Triduum.
