The ever-popular Chesterton European Market opens Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Broadway and Third St.

There will be 77 spots filled with some of the crowd-pleasing favorites and new booths, soon to be added to lists of favorites.

“I’m really looking forward to the Market,” said Bonnie Trout, executive director of the Chesterton/Duneland Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the event. “A lot of people have been anxious for the opening. They’ve been calling about it because the weather has been so good.”

Trout said some of the new booths are sure to be added to the list of favorites. The men of St. Iakovos Church will be cooking and serving shish kabob, while the women of St. Iakovos continue to sell the delectable desserts celebrated by Greeks around the world.

Another new booth, “Simply Crepes” will offer tantalizing fruit varieties.

A Bloomington, Ind. Winery will be selling wines that are bound to go well with the fresh cheese that is always in demand. The bakery, another booth that consistently draws crowds and extremely long lines, will be back.

Also returning will be Froelich’s pickles and cracker bread, Marilyn’s pies, tea, Urban Chef mustards and other condiments, Polish Pottery, Indian Summer, Tao Chen’s jewelry and other items, sun glasses, South Shore posters, jewelers, photographers, oils and watercolor, personal care, aroma therapy, gourmet cookies and chocolates, farmers’ seasonal items, and oh, so much more.

Entertainment will be provided by the Scott Pazera trio.

This event has become a must on the lists of local residents and of those from far away.
