What is a reunion? According to New Century Dictionary, it “is a gathering
of relatives or friends after a separation.”
The Chesterton Class of 1950 recently gathered at Strongbow’s Restaurant in
Valparaiso for its 55th high school reunion, and an afternoon of good food,
nostalgic fellowship and entertainment.
Those present included Dean Colley and guest, Renee Winthur, Bill Fornshell,
Barbara Foster Rosetti, Ruth Johnson Chambers and daughter, Cindy, John
Kipper and daughter, Colleen, Joyce Knoblock Kohler, Bob Loper and wife,
Judy, Doris Maney Stout, Margaret Maney Rhoda, Ronald “Doc” Martinson and
wife, Joanne, Don Olson and wife, Sandy, Jack Ruhe, Marjorie Schrader Foster
and Husband, Jay, Bruce Smith and wife, Joanne, Earl Studtmann, Kent Stumpf,
Donald Peters, Norbert Milzarek and wife, Adrienne, Shirley Tavernier
Sharpe, Dorothy Weidman Meyers, Virginia Wilson Reling and husband, Ben
Reling.
Beautiful carnation corsages and boutonnieres in the class colors of green
and white were created by Shirley Sharpe, who also provided candy and pencil
favors with the Class of 1950 logo. Barbara Rosetti graciously provided
lettered name tags and green and white flower pens to the women who were
present. Local musicians, Granny and the Rat, provided a merry hour of songs
and corny jokes and some sing-a-longs.
Arrangements have been made for a memorial brick in honor of the CHS Class
of 1950 to be placed in Thomas Centennial Park.
Suggestions were made for a 58th reunion in 2008, and an invitation was
extended to all to meet for lunch on the second Tuesday of every other month
at 1 p.m. at Hooligan’s Restaurant in Chesterton. Please join the group on
June 15.
