MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (AP) — The chief executive of NiSource says it’s
reviewing a director’s offer of a day of Kentucky horse racing to former
chief Indiana utility regulator David Lott Hardy.
CEO Robert Skaggs Jr. says the utility holding company is reviewing messages
between Hardy and director Dennis Foster. The Times of Munster and the
Merrillville Post-Tribune report the review could result in Foster’s
resignation or other action.
Foster offered the trip the day after the Indiana Utility Regulatory
Commission approved a nearly 17 percent electric rate increase for NiSource.
Indiana regulations ban behind-the-scenes communication between the IURC and
parties to a rate case.
Gov. Mitch Daniels fired Hardy last year over his handling of an ethics flap
involving another utility company, Duke Energy.
A message seeking comment was left at Foster’s Kentucky home.
